Emergency Text Service Launched

The Irish government has released a six-month pilot of an emergency text service for those with hearing loss or speech impediments. The service would allow these individuals to, after registration, send free text messages to an emergency responding system that can relay the texts to the needed service, for instance, the Ambulance service or the Fire service. Despite its brief six-month trial run, policymakers and deaf Irish alike commend the new milestone it has set in providing equal access for deaf and hard of hearing residents.
